There’s a presence that stands quietly behind the everyday self. Not a guide, not a guardian, but the deeper architecture of one’s own being. It’s older than the personality, wider than the mind, and threaded through lifetimes like a hidden current. Most people only catch it in flashes like a sudden knowing, a correction that feels like it comes from elsewhere, a moment of clarity too complete to have been built by the waking mind. Yet nothing “other” is often involved. The presence is simply the self in its fuller, uncompressed form.

Straight up I need to address that there is a large portion of you that find my writings that are from the witchy community and will start to gloss out to this seemingly “all is one” stuff because that normally is reserved for the spiritual and new ages section…and, let’s be real, you want to know how to wield the real magick. I promise, as a hardcore Witchy woman myself – this is the real magick. These words are in a practical sense their own spell, that is energetically activated each time it is read. Once you crack the code of this article, there is absolutely no barrier to your Occult workings. If you want to know how to make shit happen – magickal technical speak – you need to know what you are working with! Read it once, even reluctantly, and it will unfold as it is meant to, organically within ‘your system’, I’ve just given that a little nudge along, you’re welcome.

There is also another large portion of my witchy warriors who, once they give themselves the chance to read this, will feel like “Yes, duh Carlie… we waited for that?” and I totally get that! Walking the occult path myself since I was a little girl has also embraced the Source energy that underpins all things. It has been accepted knowledge the whole time that deities and other energy forms were sonic keys of that same Source energy, and we could look at it kind of like a family tree. I say accepted because there are people who still take this very black-and-white literal view of the boundaries that separate, and these people need the stories and mythologies because they are only ready for exoteric teachings (exoteric/stories, mesoteric/parables, esoteric/transmissions). Side note: nearly everyone you hear say esoteric actually means exoteric, but that’s a story for another time.

I had to come to this conclusion myself – it is a path of critical thinking, discernment, and healthy skepticism, or should be, after being able – to explore these concepts myself and see what lands. I’ve never been able to subscribe to the “God” model, for example, of this personified being…the Sky Daddy that determines all of the things, that always felt so limited but I did try. I didn’t have the language when I was young to see this was Source energy too, just presented so people could start to form a relationship with it. I didn’t see then these were a bunch of stories to disguise hidden truths for those who could look past them – or how much they were influenced by the bias of the times, anyway. Where it became a control tool for the masses through fear and the proactive discouragement of anyone to turn inward and still explicitly needing the middle man to speak to “God” was where I drew a big line. That, however, is a statement on the times, the free will of being able to control and the false matrix-driven need for compliance. Did I also fall in love with and felt completely embraced by Hekate when I was young, absolutely (and even still to today), and that’s a statement to how different sonic keys work for different people. I might understand the architecture of the Deep Self better but also know that different evolutions of specific currents of Source energy are going to hold something that and ‘individual self’ needs in this incarnation (or multiple, as I have found out), and that is okay too.

Most of us can agree the human identity isn’t a single layer. I propose to you, the way I see it is a vertical stack of consciousness, each level more expansive than the one above. The personality is the narrowest aperture, the temporary mask worn for a single incarnation. Beneath it lies a deeper stratum that remembers what the surface self forgets. Beneath that, a level that perceives unity rather than separation. And beneath all of it, the root spark – the monadic core – where individuality and the Absolute blur into one. To become aware of this is what most systems of spirituality and metaphysics aim for – surpassing the duality, by experience not parroted scriptures.

Do I hear a “…but Carlie, I just want to cast powerful spells and manifest what I truly want”? But my Witchy reader – haven’t you always maintained a connection to your higher self and spent your whole practise strengthening that and learning to discern and tune into it’s wisdom and guidance? It’s the same thing we are talking about here – I’m just looking at the layers on that. So, my friend, keep reading – I’m literally handing you the keys to make that happen, if you know how to look…and you do, trust me but I’m here to help you rediscover that. There’s a good reason we’ve been systematically taught to disconnect from our higher self, to distrust our own inner knowing, and to lose faith in our divine authority and the understanding that we are immensely powerful co‑creators of reality.

Us witches were either eliminated or driven underground, our teachings locked behind closed‑door practices and mystery schools. Because let’s be honest, if everyone embraced their sovereignty, then the overarching system that thrives on complacency and compliance, wouldn’t have a leg to stand on. Then we have to address the Universal law of balance and the element of needing the chance to discover these truths ourself, even if that is in rebellion of the accepted ways. As much as we all want to ‘diss on the control mechanisims‘, we overlook the necessary tension that drive choice points, that very system might create. To grasp what I’m sharing here is also to recognise our part in that dynamic. Fear is the only reason this internal conflict manifests as an external push and pull, but that’s a conversation for another day. When you truly overcome that fear (and you may think you have but just wait for a few ego deaths and dark knights to reassess that one), this control layer naturally loosens its grip, you’ll see through it. Even more – you’ll see the need for it and the ‘what can go wrong‘ if everyone woke up with this instant knowing without having the chance to prepare the system and come to this deeper understanding in a sustainable way, as you were able to. One step at a time!

The shift from surface to depth isn’t a leap; it’s a descent. Think of it as stepping from daylight into the cool chambers beneath a temple. Each layer reveals another facet of the same being, and the deeper one travels, the more the boundaries of personality begin to loosen. What seemed separate at the surface becomes continuous below. Witchy tip – think of this as the personality is a lantern carried through the corridors of incarnation, casting a narrow beam of awareness. The deeper self is the flame within it, steady, ancient, and untouched by the shifting shadows it illuminates. Sometimes the lantern is going to glimpse more, sometimes you won’t know what direction to shine it – but that does not diminish it’s power (or ability to set everything ablaze if you mistreat it).

At the root of the self lies a point of origin that is neither personal nor impersonal, neither many nor one. It’s the silent core from which all expressions of identity arise. This core doesn’t evolve; it simply is. What evolves are the layers built around it – the soul, the individuality, the personality – each a different mask worn by the same primordial spark. To touch this core is to remember that the self is older than time itself. In my practices, this is Source energy, the same source energy that permeates everything.

Let’s throw out another truth that needs to be addressed in line with this conversation. When someone realised “all the things” and the lack of separation because of experiential truth (or bordering on that), there can be a tendency to become “spiritually disillusioned”. In reality, that is kind of the point – but not in this way. I’m talking about the “what is even the point of doing anything or this human experience if it’s all the same anyway” sort of train of thought. That’s valid and often comes, intentionally, before a deeper dive level into this topic where the switch is literally flipped to seeing the raw potential of that and infinite possibilities of this game. Of course it will never feel like this if someone is in a symbiotic relationship with their suffering to start with, and we all know, at times what this feels like. This thinking though, does get a lot of people stuck, and it is intentional. It’s kind of like an internal firewall that is activated when we get too close to touching the core. lt’s the ego, or false self having a freakout (see my playlist: Spiritual Emergency for the ego’s tactics).

Also, we are responsible for this too – and that’s a hard pill to swallow – through conditioning, yes; through fear, yes; but ultimately our choice, as it is to keep ourselves in suffering loops, especially when we start to see there is another way. Inaction through non-awareness is one thing; self-sabotage when you’re holding the keys is another. It can be horribly hard to hold this knowledge and still look at your children, friends, family, loved ones and know the characters themselves don’t really exist (you included), but they are all the same Source energy playing dress‑ups. That alone often causes people to halt their inner journey – and I get it. It doesn’t have to be that way but how do we know that until we are shown differently. There is a reason this path was traditionally reserved for those who had little to do with the world; there is a reason for it being taught in controlled environments with minimal outside influence like ashrams and monasteries. They may not serve the same purpose now, but it has always been understood – the fine line these teachings can bring a being to.

The self doesn’t descend into incarnation as a single, intact unit. It fractures deliberately, sending only a sliver of its totality into the narrow corridor of embodied life. The greater portion remains above and behind, holding the long memory of the soul’s wanderings. This isn’t separation but strategy: the deeper self shelters its full magnitude so the incarnate fragment can focus on the density of matter without being overwhelmed by its own immensity. To come even close to touching this before ‘the self’ is ready to look at this with the dedication, discernment and needed level of ‘unlearning’ of a false reality – it can be such a high level of cognitive dissonance that it becomes destabilising to the system. Do I have concerns about even writing on this for that reason? Somewhat, but I know those who really aren’t ready would have already closed this article…but even still there is a level of responsibility so we’ll just have an overview of the footnotes for today!

The personality can’t hold all of this at once. It’s too small, too bound to linear time, too attached to it’s relationships and possessions, too dependent on boundaries to function in the world. Until your personality has been absolutely decimated and you’ve consciously chosen a new one to re-enter the world with but maintained the knowing that you aren’t it – you’ll miss the deeper teachings. So, when the deeper layers bleed through, the personality interprets them as external. Guidance feels like a visitor. Insight feels like a message. Correction feels like an intervention. But these impressions arise only because the surface self is encountering a version of itself it doesn’t yet recognise.

Some people experience this deeper layer as a supervisory presence – a silent watcher that steps forward only when necessary. Its interventions feel authoritative not because it’s separate, but because it sees more than the personality can. It holds memory across incarnations, perceives patterns that stretch beyond a single lifetime, and understands the trajectory of the individual as a whole, not just the concerns of the current chapter. Others encounter the deeper identity through visions of interconnectedness, as if they’re filaments woven into a vast, luminous network. In these moments, individuality isn’t erased but contextualised. The self becomes a node within a greater field, distinct yet inseparable, like a single thread in a cosmic tapestry. Communication within this field isn’t verbal; it’s direct, symbolic, and immediate – a transmission of meaning rather than language. This accounts for some of the experience of ‘downloads’ when people start going through their awakening – conscious of it or not yet. They may definitely come from another slice of consciousness, and that’s where we can validate the concept of deities, interdimensional beings, disembodied beings and other worldly entities for sure – but there is a common thread connecting all of those (even the malevolent presenting ones), and you too.

Within the hidden architecture of consciousness, each individual is a luminous strand woven into a breathing lattice. These strands don’t touch in the physical sense, yet they resonate across the subtle planes like strings of a single instrument. When one awakens, the vibration travels outward, stirring the others. This is why certain insights feel communal, as though whispered by a chorus rather than discovered alone. This is why the Great Awakening is a strategic distribution of awakened beings to anchor in the upgraded energy to the collective field and help maintain stability in the greater system for a larger roll-out of this new energy, and why one individual doing their inner work will create a quickening effect to those around them. The moment the self recognises its continuity, the walls of individuality thin. The solitary thread becomes part of a woven pattern, and the pattern reveals itself as alive. This shift doesn’t erase the self; it situates it, showing that individuality is a doorway, not a prison. This perspective does in a way conflict with most spiritual practises whose sole aim is liberate from the self but in this Witch’s perspective, that is a goal that can be achieved (and proven), whilst still embodied, and then the real magick can begin!

The personality often misinterprets these experiences because it assumes that anything arising from within must be its own invention. That’s the error of reduction – collapsing the entire structure of consciousness into the narrow band of the waking mind. And let me just say for the record – there is a whole system in this manifest reality that is designed to perpetuate that though, and make people feel wrong and chemically imbalanced for having these insights, regardless of the underlying energy Source powering that system (remember, Source energy really is neural – Saint or Murderer, it’s all the same, we have the moral judgement to distinguish that). But the deeper layers aren’t psychological constructs. They’re the long-standing continuity of the individual, the part that existed before birth and persists after death. The opposite mistake is to treat the deeper identity as a separate transcendent being. That preserves the sense of intelligence and agency but fractures the unity of the self. It creates two where there is only one: the personality and its supposed overseer. Yet those who encounter the deeper presence rarely describe it as alien. They describe it as intimately familiar, like meeting a version of themselves that’s been waiting patiently in the wings. There are other ‘beings’ you’ll encounter that feel different – intense, scary, threatening or a little bit off. These are the same Source energy but their individual sparks have evolved differently. You can work with that too – from an occult perspective.

I should say here, as someone who actually works with energy forms and disembodied beings, including the interdimensional sort, this topic can turn into a proper rabbit hole if you’re not careful. I know the reality of engaging with distinct beings while still holding awareness of the Source core we’re talking about. It’s messy to untangle and even harder to explain without sounding like I’ve had too much mugwort tea, but deity and entity work absolutely exists. There are multiple sonic keys, your deeper self included, that unlock different streams of consciousness and different currents of Source energy. And Source itself is completely neutral like I’ve said. Not good, not evil, just raw potential waiting for direction. That’s why these individual keys matter. They let us access different aspects of Source without short‑circuiting ourselves. But that whole landscape, fascinating as it is, sits alongside (and occasionally overlaps with) the Architecture of the Deep Self we’re focusing on today.

When the surface self brushes against its deeper counterpart, the encounter is often misread as contact with an external intelligence (which though like I said can be legitimate on a certain level, but the reality is it often isn’t, and I’ve seen many people “get lost and tangled within this false guidance”). The confusion arises because the personality has no memory of ever being anything larger than itself. It can’t imagine that the voice it hears in moments of crisis or clarity is simply its own forgotten depth speaking through the cracks. The shock of recognition isn’t that the Other exists, but that the Other is (normally) oneself.

Symbols are the first language of the deeper self, but they’re only the threshold. Once the personality learns to listen beneath the imagery, the communication becomes direct – a silent knowing that bypasses thought entirely. The transition is subtle, like the moment a whisper becomes a presence. The deeper self rarely speaks in words. It communicates through symbols, impressions, and sudden inner shifts, the language of the subtle realms. Symbols bypass the narrow gates of logic and slip directly into the marrow of awareness. They’re not metaphors but transmissions, carrying layers of meaning that unfold only when the personality is ready to receive them. To understand the deeper self is to learn to read the currents beneath thought.

The truth is: incarnation itself reveals the truth. If the personality were the whole identity, each lifetime would generate a new self from nothing. But the continuity of incarnation – the sense of returning, of carrying unfinished threads, of being shaped by something older – points to a deeper individuality that precedes the personality. The personality isn’t the origin of the self; it’s an expression of a self that already exists.

The deeper identity moves through lifetimes the way a serpent sheds skins. With each incarnation being a temporary garment, each death a loosening of the fabric. What persists isn’t the personality but the one who wears it. This continuity isn’t linear but spiral, returning again and again to unresolved threads, unfinished vows, and dormant potentials. The personality is the momentary face of a being that has worn countless masks.

At the deepest level lies the monadic core, the root of identity that is both utterly singular and utterly unified. This is the point where the individual isn’t merely part of the whole but identical with it – the spark that is simultaneously “I” and “All.” Encounters with this level dissolve the boundaries of the personality entirely, revealing identity as a layered phenomenon rather than a fixed point. Understanding this structure resolves the long-standing ambiguity: the Higher Self isn’t imaginary, external, divine, or psychological. It’s the full vertical span of identity, of which the personality is only one localised expression. When the deeper layers become perceptible, the personality experiences them as “other” only because it can’t yet comprehend the magnitude of its own being.

At first, the deeper presence appears foreign, as though it were an intruder in the mind’s quiet corridors. But as the personality adjusts to its own depth, the strangeness fades. What once felt like an encounter with another being begins to feel like remembering a forgotten room in one’s own house. To encounter the deeper self is to glimpse the architecture of identity, it’s not a belief or a metaphor…it’s the hidden anatomy of the self, revealed in moments when the surface cracks and the deeper continuity shines through.

Here’s the part most people miss: real self‑knowledge isn’t some lofty ascent into angelic light. It’s a descent into your own underworld, lantern in hand, meeting the parts of you that have been running the show long before this lifetime gave you a name. It’s stripping back all of the conditioning and loosing the bonds of what keeps you defined by ‘this character’. The deeper self isn’t here to flatten you into cosmic sameness or pat you on the head with “we’re all one.” It’s here to remind you that you are a sovereign expression of that oneness, with your own flavour, your own trajectory, and your own magick to wield. When you finally recognise the presence that has been quietly steering you from behind the veil, you stop asking “what’s the point” and start asking “what can I do with this.” And that, truly, is where the fun begins. Because once you realise you’re not just the seeker but the architect, the serpent, and the spark, you can bend reality with far more precision – and a lot less existential panic.

Blessed Be xo
