Square

When planets pick a fight – and you’re the arena.

But here’s the magick: retrogrades aren’t here to punish. They’re here to reveal. Think of them as cosmic review periods. They slow things down so you can see the truth behind the speed. Old patterns re-emerge not to haunt you but to offer a second (or third) chance to respond differently.

So when a planet is retrograde, don’t just brace yourself. Get curious. What’s being re-evaluated? What’s coming back around for deeper healing? Retrogrades are less “pause your life” and more “pay attention to what’s repeating.”

Stationary Retrograde

The still point before the reversal, and it’s heavy.

If it’s Saturn, you might feel the weight of your responsibilities pressing harder than usual. The internal shift is stirring and your system is feeling it.

Use this time to observe. Don’t force clarity. Don’t rush action. This is the moment to tune in and listen because once the retrograde begins, you’ll be revisiting whatever this stillness just stirred.

Stations Direct

The exhale after the lesson – slow, then sudden, then forward again.

When a planet finishes its retrograde phase, it enters another moment of stillness: stationing direct. It pauses again, not yet moving forward, but no longer in reverse. This moment can feel like a cautious sigh of relief. Things are about to pick up but not quite yet.

You might feel a strange blend of fatigue and clarity. The fog is lifting, but the path forward isn’t fully illuminated yet.

Depending on the planet, this can show up in many ways. Mercury stationing direct might bring breakthroughs in communication or the return of lost items (literally or metaphorically). Venus stationing direct might finally settle relationship dilemmas or reignite creative confidence. Mars stationing direct can trigger bursts of action, sometimes impulsively, so proceed with awareness.

Conjunction

When planets link arms and amplify the vibe.

Trine

The easiest yes the Universe ever gave you.

A trine is a 120° angle between two planets, usually in the same element (fire, earth, air, or water). It’s the astrology equivalent of natural flow. These energies get each other. They reinforce one another. When planets are trine, they’re basically vibing, offering support, talent, or ease.

In the birth chart, trines show where things just… work. You may have natural gifts, strong instincts, or effortless strengths here. These are the “grace points”, places where you can ride the current instead of pushing upstream.

In transits, trines bring helpful energy. Something opens. A solution appears. Things come together without drama. But here’s the secret no one tells you: trines can be so smooth, you might miss them. They don’t demand your attention like a square or opposition. They whisper instead of roar.

So the work with trines is to use them. Don’t sleep through your blessings. Channel that harmony into something creative, expansive, or supportive. When the Universe gives you a green light – you want to hit the GO petal.

Grand Earth Trine

When stability, manifestation, and practical magic align.

A Grand Trine happens when three planets form a perfect triangle across the zodiac – all about 120° apart, in the same element. When that element is earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn), the vibe is grounding, fertile, and deeply manifestational. This isn’t a lightning strike of inspiration but it is building something real.

Grand Earth Trines stabilise. They anchor dreams into reality. This configuration often speaks to long-term potential – wealth, health, legacy, purpose. In the collective sky, when a Grand Earth Trine forms, it brings an opportunity to slow down, commit, and make it real. Think: sacred routines, divine to-do lists, or the patience to bring your vision into form.

But just like regular trines, this energy can be so comfortable that it’s easy to drift instead of direct it. There’s a risk of complacency, or assuming things will happen without effort. The work here is to meet the ease with intention.

In a natal chart, this pattern may bring natural skills in work, health, or stewardship but it also asks: how will you use what’s been given to you? Trines don’t guarantee success. They provide soil. What grows is up to you.

Eclipse

Not your average lunation, more like a cosmic reboot.

Eclipses occur when the Sun, Moon, and Earth align in just the right way to block light by either casting a shadow on the Moon (lunar eclipse) or the Earth (solar eclipse). Symbolically, this is huge. Eclipses disrupt the normal flow of light and reveal what’s usually hidden. They mark karmic turning points.

In astrology, eclipses are like spiritual plot twists. They accelerate fate. Stir the subconscious. Shake up life paths, relationships, careers – especially if they land near your natal points or personal angles. Let’s say you have a stellium in Scorpio. You might wrestle (and dance) with themes of transformation, intimacy, power, and emotional depth… a lot. A 10th-house stellium? Your career path is going to feel karmic, consuming, and central to your growth. Wherever the stellium lands, it demands focus, mastery, and (eventually) balance.

Stelliums can be both a gift and a challenge. You may have incredible strengths, insight, or natural inclination in those areas. But you may also feel one-dimensional at times, as if life keeps dragging you back to the same classroom with the same teacher wearing different masks.

In transits, temporary stelliums form when several planets gather in the sky. These are hot zones for collective energy. Think: five planets in Aquarius in one month stirring social awakenings, or a Pisces pile-up bringing spiritual downloads, tears, and dreams. Stelliums are pressure cookers. They distil your attention and magnetise growth.

Natal vs Transit

Your chart is the map. Transits are the weather.

Your natal chart is a snapshot of the sky at the moment you were born: a cosmic blueprint, etched with the potential and purpose of your soul. It doesn’t change. It’s your foundation, your pattern, your cosmic fingerprint. Every interpretation of your inner world starts here.

Transits, on the other hand, are the movements of planets in real time. They’re what’s happening now. When astrologers talk about a “Pluto transit” or “Mercury square your Sun,” they’re talking about how the current sky is interacting with your birth chart. It’s like real-time astrology weather, influencing moods, decisions, lessons, and external events.

Understanding both is crucial. Your natal chart reveals who you are, while transits reveal what time it is in your life. Transits activate parts of your chart that might otherwise lie dormant. They stir soul lessons, initiate transformation, or offer support depending on the planetary dialogue.

In other words: your natal chart is the terrain. Transits are the cosmic forecast. Together, they help you walk your path with clarity, rhythm, and awe. That said – even without understanding how these transits personally effect you (like in my previously mentioned monthly astrology posts), you will still be able to see these themes play out in the collective and your own life, it’s just the extra understanding of your own natal chart that adds an extra level of flavour for the gifts or resistance you might feel as a bonus to the general event. My rule of thumb – tune into how you feel and what you know by experience in these times, natal charts are a great roadmap but you already have the answers if you are willing to listen and reflect.

Chart Ruler

The planet steering the whole show behind the scenes.

Your Chart Ruler is one of the most important yet overlooked elements in your birth chart. It’s the planet that rules your Ascendant (Rising Sign) and by extension, it governs your life’s approach, identity expression, and the overall tone of your incarnation.

Let’s say you’re a Leo Rising. That makes your Chart Ruler the Sun, so solar themes like self-expression, vitality, and purpose shine through all your experiences. A Pisces Rising? Neptune is your ruler, meaning intuition, dreams, and boundary blurring will flavour how you meet the world.

The condition of the Chart Ruler (what sign it’s in, what house it falls into, what aspects it makes) can reveal a lot. It often describes your soul’s preferred operating system. Do you act through Venus (love), Mars (will), Saturn (structure), or Mercury (mind)? That planetary archetype quietly sets the tone of your life path and when it’s under a major transit, your entire life can feel like it’s shifting.

Learning your Chart Ruler is like finding the director behind the camera. You might not see them in every scene, but they’re influencing every shot.

House System (brief)

Where your life happens – astrologically speaking.

The zodiac signs show how energy moves. The planets show what energy is active. But the houses? They show where it’s all playing out.

The birth chart is divided into 12 slices – like a cosmic pie – each representing a specific life area. The 1st House is self and identity. The 7th is partnerships. The 10th is career. The 4th is home and roots. These are the stages where the planetary actors perform. We’ll delve into this in detail together in the future.

For now, know that each planet in your chart falls into a house, meaning that energy has a domain. Saturn in your 5th house might bring lessons around creativity or children. Venus in your 2nd could bless your relationship with money and pleasure. The houses contextualise your karma, gifts, and growth.

Now, there are different house systems (Placidus, Whole Sign, etc.) and astrologers have preferences, but don’t get overwhelmed. The most important takeaway is this: houses give form to the story. They make the archetypal energy personal. They anchor it into real life.

Royal Fixed Star

The celestial nobles: ancient, rare, and full of mythic power.

Royal Fixed Stars are not planets, they’re ancient, prominent stars used in astrology for millennia. There are four main “Royal” stars: Aldebaran, Regulus, Antares, and Fomalhaut, each representing a gatekeeper of the heavens in Persian tradition. These stars don’t move like planets; they’re “fixed,” holding their position across time.

When a Royal Fixed Star closely conjuncts a planet or point in your birth chart (especially your Sun, Moon, or Ascendant), it can amplify your destiny with legendary themes. These are mythic energies, often granting unusual gifts, fated experiences, or even spiritual tests.

Regulus (in Leo) is associated with kingship, honour, and dramatic rise or fall. Antares (in Scorpio) brings intensity, ambition, and warrior energy. Fomalhaut (in Pisces) links to dreams, mysticism, and visionary insight. Aldebaran (in Gemini) holds themes of guardianship, truth, and moral integrity.

In transits, these stars are rarely activated but when they are, pay attention. They bring potent ancestral or archetypal energy into the collective field. They’re not part of everyday astrology… but when they show up, they change the game.
