Learn moreIf astrology is the language of the stars, then the planets are the main cast of characters so lets get to know them and how they effect your experience and the greater system.
Learn moreOne of the most accessible and underestimated ways to deepen your inner journey is through the act of journaling. Starting with simple prompts can lead you to profound truths.
Learn moreIf astrology is the language of the stars, then the planets are the main cast of characters. Each one is an archetype – a living force – playing out in your chart like divine actors on a celestial stage. The Sun isn’t just “you,” it’s your radiant essence. The Moon isn’t just feelings, it’s the primal rhythm of your emotional tides. And then there’s Mars, the spicy one, your inner fire-starter, ready to throw punches or chase passion (or both).
These planetary energies shape everything from how you think, love, and fight, to what kind of wounds you carry from other lifetimes. But here’s the trick: it’s not just about the planets themselves, it’s where they show up in your birth chart that personalises their meaning. Mars in Cancer is very different from Mars in Aries. Mercury in Pisces might speak in poetry, while Mercury in Virgo fact-checks the poem. Their sign, house, and aspects to other planets all blend into a one-of-a-kind frequency: yours.
And it’s not just about you (though you’re obviously the main character in your life). These planetary archetypes are also moving constantly – influencing collective energies, triggering world events, and stirring up the kind of psychic weather we talk about in my monthly astrology posts, like August 2025: Karma & Integrity. When Pluto squares the Nodes, or Venus goes retrograde, we all feel the invitation to grow, recalibrate, or unravel. The more you understand these planetary roles, the easier it is to spot the invitations hidden in the chaos both personal and global.
So let’s meet the planetary players. Think of this as your archetypal cheat sheet – a quick scroll-through of who’s who in the cosmos.
| Planet / Point | Core Meaning |
|---|---|
| ☉ Sun | Your core identity, vitality, and radiance. This is what fuels you. It’s the part of you that wants to shine. In the birth chart, it often represents how you grow into your purpose and how others sense your presence. |
| ☽ Moon | Your emotional body and instinctual self. This is your inner child, your tides, your comfort zone. It governs how you nurture and how you need to be nurtured. In transits, the Moon is what makes us feel everything. |
| ☿ Mercury | The Messenger. Mercury governs how you think, speak, write, and process information. It’s your internal narrator and your external communicator. Also rules tech and travel hiccups during retrogrades (you’ve been warned). |
| ♀ Venus | The archetype of love, pleasure, art, and magnetism. Venus reveals what you value, how you relate, and what you attract. In a chart, it shows how you give and receive love and what makes your soul swoon. |
| ♂ Mars | Drive. Desire. Will. Mars shows how you pursue what you want (and how you fight when provoked). It’s passion, action, anger, and vitality. When Mars is involved, you’ll know things heat up fast. |
| ♃ Jupiter | The cosmic expander. Jupiter is growth, blessings, belief, and big vision. It’s where you’re naturally lucky and where your faith lives. When Jupiter transits a point in your chart, things get bigger for better or for “oops.” |
| ♄ Saturn | The karmic teacher. Saturn is structure, discipline, responsibility, and time. It teaches through pressure and pruning. Wherever Saturn lands in your chart, there’s usually a sacred lesson unfolding, one that takes time. |
| ♅ Uranus | The Awakener. Uranus is rebellion, innovation, liberation, and sudden change. It shakes the system, breaks rules, and frees what’s been stuck. Think earthquakes but also breakthroughs. |
| ♆ Neptune | The Dreamer. Neptune is intuition, illusion, spirituality, escapism, and divine longing. It can blur the lines between truth and fantasy. A Neptune transit can feel like divine bliss… or total fog. |
| ♇ Pluto | The Underworld guide. Pluto is power, shadow, transformation, destruction, and rebirth. It doesn’t mess around. Wherever Pluto goes, something is dying and something more true is being born. |
| ☊ North Node | Your evolutionary direction – where your soul is headed in this life. It’s the terrain you’re learning to navigate, often feeling unfamiliar but deeply important. This is your cosmic compass. |
| ☋ South Node | Your soul’s past. Talents, patterns, and karmic habits you’ve already mastered, but may be clinging to. It’s the comfort zone that must be integrated or released to move forward. |
| ⚷ Chiron | The Wounded Healer. Chiron represents the place of sacred wounding not to punish, but to reveal where your deepest pain holds your deepest medicine. This is where you heal by helping others. |
