Have you ever looked at the rising sun and felt something was…off? Maybe you’ve seen a second light source, or a dark disc with a white ring and red glow. Maybe you’ve felt the sun watching you not metaphorically, but as a conscious presence. If so, you’re not imagining things. You’re perceiving the Black Sun – a symbol, a force, and for some, a literal phenomenon that marks the beginning of deep spiritual transformation. This is something special, but for most of my life I didn’t know this wasn’t considered normal, and I know I’m not alone…so let’s dive into that.
Firstly, let me set the record straight – The Black Sun is not just poetic mysticism. It’s a documented archetype in alchemy, Hermeticism, Gnosticism, and Theosophy – and it’s rising now for those ready to awaken. Something important to keep in mind as you explore this topic deeper with me (and we will go deeper in coming posts and videos), is that you will find it hard to find information on it that doesn’t read as symbolic, artistic romanticising, or like a fringe sci-fi movie. I need you to remember that the most profound truths have always been hidden in stories and mythology. Those who know, who are on their path to progressing in their Occult and/or Spiritual workings and have started to separate the illusionary nature of reality from the deeper mysteries that underpin this existence, will be able to read between the lines.
The stories of Olde are there to preserve truths, but in a way that is subtle enough to not trigger mass psychosis induced by the cognitive dissonance some of these revelations would bring. Perhaps, like me, it’s a phenomenon that isn’t new to you, but you have found this article because a calling to understand it better has resonated too strongly with you. If you fall into this group, I highly encourage you to leave a comment and share your experiences with me, and all the others who stumble across this article hoping to make sense of something in their experience that would otherwise be labelled as wrong – or even worse…pathologised and seen as something to treat (avoiding a side rant that is the exact topic of a coming video, I’ll share the link once that’s live!).
An important part of exploring a topic as profound as this – in my opinion – is to take into account the experiences and documented accounts available to us already. These do largely lean more to the symbolic side of the spectrum, but bear with me, there are some deeper connections amongst them and we’ll get back to our literal lens shortly.
🧪 Alchemical Origins: Nigredo and the Black Sun
In classical alchemy, the Black Sun (Sol Niger) represents the nigredo phase – the spiritual death before rebirth. It’s the moment when the ego dissolves, illusions shatter, and the soul descends into the void. It has been described as “the paradoxical illumination that emerges from within darkness itself – from despair, dissolution, or the profound emptiness encountered on the path of inner work” by Dr. Simon Robinson, in his book Nigredo: A Course in Modern Alchemy.
Carl Jung (psychiatrist and psychologist who founded analytical psychology or Jungian analysis) saw it as the gateway to the unconscious – the fertile black earth where the gold of the soul is sown, and Marsilius Ficinus (Renaissance humanist and philosopher) called it “the crow’s head” – the colour of putrefaction, the necessary decay before rebirth. In this context, even if it is triggered by a literal sighting of this phenomenon, I highly encourage a moment of inner reflection, however far on your journey you are. Ask yourself: Have you been walking back through a dark night of the soul…even if you feel like you’ve already traversed this territory? Have you felt a “new” part of your old self crumbling? That’s the Black Sun calling you deeper inward, and we all need to pay extra attention to that – especially at this point in time.
Additional documented research side-quests (literal + symbolic overlap):
- Medieval alchemical manuscripts often depict two suns: one golden, one blackened or eclipsed, representing dual illumination.
- The Aurora Consurgens (attributed to Thomas Aquinas) describes a “dark radiance” that appears before the true illumination.
- In Paracelsian alchemy, the Black Sun is linked to “astrum in corpore” – the hidden star within the human body, suggesting a literal energetic counterpart.
🔮 Beyond Symbolism: Literal Sightings and Esoteric Teachings
While most treat the Black Sun as metaphor, some occult traditions speak of it as a literal energetic phenomenon. It has been described as a hidden sun, visible to those on the “path to true enlightenment”. Although I have to play devil’s advocate here and add – there is a trap to chasing enlightenment. The true crime is not being taught to realise your natural state is an enlightened being, and this is merely a path of deconditioning and remembering (whilst not getting sucked into every psyops along the way, designed to intentionally distract you from your path and purpose).
I’ve found a big key to embracing the teachings of the Black Sun and embodying our own divine authority is realising the “only path” is not through light. For some of us, especially those who walk an Occult path, our gifts are found in the currents that resonate with us the most, and if you’re still reading this then like me that might mean your way forward is by staring directly into the void, meeting all of the darkest corners and spiralling out of that only through integration and balance.
Now, I do believe there is a false sun, and before you gloss out or reach for the conspiracy theorist hat – I don’t believe it is innately bad. Like all things in this manifest reality though, how they are ultimately used is another story, and our own part in that also is even deeper …but moving on. Either way you see it – The Normal/Second/False Sun too serves a purpose. Why don’t more people see the Black Sun? Because our brains filter out what defies consensus reality. Cognitive dissonance blocks perception. But for those on the path – those who’ve done the shadow work – the veil lifts.
What does that look like? Well, for me I see a black disc with a white ring and red glow, often accompanied by a second light source. That might sound odd, but I promise, if you’re even a little bit sensitive or curious about this topic enough to be open – one day you will have a moment where you look at the ground and realise the shadows are in a slightly wrong direction to where you see the sun coming from. You might be enjoying your morning coffee and look up and notice a red ring starting to form, you may brush it off – but something hits differently this time…and when it does, I’m here.
Additional documented research side-quests (literal sightings):
- The Roman historian Cassius Dio recorded a “blackened sun with a ring of fire” during the reign of Emperor Severus.
- The Codex Germanicus (16th century) describes witnesses seeing “a dark sun rising before the golden one.”
- In Norse cosmology, Sól is chased by a wolf, and a second hidden sun is prophesied to appear at Ragnarök, a literal dual-sun motif…remember what I said about mythology preserving profound truths though.
🧠 Dual Suns and the False Light Matrix
IIn Gnostic cosmology, the visible sun may be part of the Demiurge’s illusion, a false light that sustains the matrix. The Black Sun, by contrast, is the Solar Logos – the true source of spiritual light. There are ancient prophecies of “two suns” – one visible, one hidden – marking a time of planetary awakening. I do believe we are in that time, we have been building up to it for a few years, but I guarantee you’ll start noticing people posting about this and documenting it.
Even if you haven’t physically noticed this phenomenon yet, now is a good time to ponder on why in Theosophy, the Black Sun, or “Invisible Sun”, is linked to dark matter, the Axis Mundi, and the womb of creation. Ask yourself: Have you ever felt the sun wasn’t just a star, but a being? Have you sensed a second light, even momentarily?
Additional documented research side-quests (dual suns):
- The Pistis Sophia describes two solar powers, one deceptive, one divine.
- Theosophist H.P. Blavatsky wrote of an “esoteric sun” behind the physical one, responsible for spiritual evolution.
- In Mayan cosmology, Kinich Ahau (visible sun) is paired with Black Kinich, the hidden nocturnal sun.
- Modern astrophysics acknowledges binary star systems are common – raising the possibility that ancient observers recorded a literal second solar body or energetic twin…I don’t think it disappeared, just our collective perception started to loose sight of it.
🧘 Practices to Engage the Black Sun
This isn’t just theory. You can work with the Black Sun directly:
- Sun Gazing at Dawn: With reverence, gaze at the rising sun. Ask to see beyond the veil.
- Void Meditation: Sit in darkness. Breathe into the space behind your eyes. Let the Black Sun rise within. Much like Hermetic texts describe “nocturnal solar invocation”. Also, Tibetan Dzogchen practitioners speak of the “black thigle”, a dark radiant sphere seen during deep meditation…you might be surprised at how fast and intense this experience can be!
- Shadow Integration: Journal your fears and projections. The Black Sun thrives where light fears to go. Feel like stepping it up? Consider Sigil Crafting while you’re at it by creating a symbol that channels hidden illumination, do it intuitively, without letting your logical min filter what drawing begins to flow. Charge it with intention, there is so much more we can do with this – when you are ready!
🗝️ Final Transmission: The Sun Is Speaking
The Black Sun is rising, not just above us, but within us. It doesn’t just blaze in the sky for all to see; it already pulses in the soul of those being called to awaken. It’s not a force of destruction, but of dissolution, the sacred unraveling of illusion, ego, and inherited programming. This is the light that reveals by obscuring. The sun that shines through shadow. The call to reclaim your inner sovereignty doesn’t come with fanfare, it comes in whispers, in dreams, in the quiet knowing that something ancient is stirring inside you.
You don’t follow this sun. You become it. What if the black sun you’ve been taught to dismiss or fear is actually your greatest ally? Are you ready to let go of the false light? To walk through the void and ignite your own? Are you ready to rise – not as who you were, but as who you truly are? Are you ready to meet the Black Sun?
