In our lives, many of us encounter moments of deep darkness – places so consuming they can make us question our purpose, our worth, and even our desire to continue. But what if this darkness isn’t something we’re meant to fear or escape from? What if it’s the very thing that shapes our strength, refines our purpose, and ultimately drives us to help others? If you’ve ever been at that precipice of despair and contemplating if it’s worth continuing, the very fact that you’re still here means something much bigger is at play, so how do you use that pain to create embodied purpose?

I know myself, dealing with the darkest moments of persistent existential depression, I wanted to hear from a person that had their world shattered and saw absolutely no point in living another second. I wanted to find the secrets to how they still did, and then went on to excel at whatever they chose to. I wanted an example of how find reasons to keep pushing through the inner darkness and not be consumed by it.

To me, that is what real power and inspiration looked like, not some stage social media motivational piece. I wanted to talk to that person, the person who had been there, whose eyes said it all. I didn’t find them – so you know what, I became her – eventually. And I learned a lot about her. I found my Inner Darkness had actually become a lighthouse. And what does a lighthouse do? It guides others to safer paths.

The Desperate Desire for Life in the Midst of Darkness

When you’re in the depths of despair, it can feel as if the world has closed in on you, leaving you suffocated and helpless. It’s a paradox that even in the darkest moments of wanting to end it all, what you’re truly longing for is life itself. Yes, even when it seems as if giving up is the only option, what you really crave is an escape from the crushing pain and crippling confusion of how to continue.

The feelings of worthlessness and seemingly endless negative thoughts – they’re not there to punish you. They’re there to guide you, to point you toward something deeper than the human struggle. They’re opportunities for growth, for healing, and for discovering the hidden strength you never knew you had.

In my own life, I’ve been at that edge a few times. I’ve faced the impossible choice and I’ve tried to take a more finalising path but I’ve been pulled back from the brink. Not because I wasn’t ready to go, but because something within me knew I had a purpose I hadn’t yet fulfilled. And I believe the same applies to you.

Surviving Darkness – A Cosmic Course Correction

Have you ever felt as if you’ve been given a second chance at life? Maybe you’ve faced a medical crisis or a moment where you almost crossed over to the other side, by your own choice or not. For those who have, there’s often a sense of having been given second chance. I know in my scenario, it more closely resembles a borrowed life. It’s a life that was nearly lost, yet here you are, still breathing, still here, and it’s no coincidence. You’ve been given a second chance for a reason.

However, it’s not enough to simply survive. When we’re given a second chance, we’re meant to transform, to change the course of our lives and make the most of this gift. If we go back to living in the same way, if we don’t use the lessons from the darkness to fuel our purpose, then we risk squandering this opportunity.

Why Your Darkness Was Not in Vain

If you’ve survived a deep moment of darkness—whether it was emotional, physical, or spiritual—then you are likely destined to do something bigger with your life. That might sound generic but it carries a heavy weight and responsibility that cannot be glossed over. You are a survivor, a beacon of resilience, and your story is meant to inspire others.

The journey through darkness equips you with an unshakable fire, a stubborn determination that no obstacle can extinguish. This “survivor fire” gives you the clarity to see what truly matters and the strength to move forward, no matter how hard the path may be.

It’s this very fire that makes you uniquely capable of helping others who are in the same dark place you once were. Whether or not your path aligns with the “spiritual” or “self-development” fields, your journey through hardship has prepared you to impact lives in ways you cannot yet fully comprehend.

Perhaps your fire is specifically design to activate the lamp so that your Inner Darkness Lighthouse can start to guide others to safer shores. Just by owning your struggles, strength and progress – even on your darkest days, you become a shining example of possibilities to someone who can find none of their own. You embody a glimmer of hope that just might be enough to allow someone to push through a little bit longer, to uncover the next inner key that unlocks their own reasons for being.

The Energy of Purpose and the Ripple Effect

When you choose to overcome the darkness, you don’t just change your own life – you set a precedent. You pave the way for others to follow, and your very presence becomes an inspiration. You’ve cleared a path that others can walk down, and you’ve shown them that the darkness isn’t the end – it’s the beginning of something greater.

You may not even realise it, but your journey is the spark for others’ healing, growth, and transformation. By simply choosing to show up, to live authentically, and to embrace your survival, you help others do the same.

The Importance of Service to Self

One of the most important things I’ve learned along this journey is that to serve others, we must first serve ourselves. Too often, we hear that our purpose is to help others, and while that’s true, there’s a misunderstanding in the way we approach it. Service to others isn’t about putting everyone else’s needs above our own. Service is about having the capacity to serve from a place of wholeness.

You can’t pour from an empty cup. If you neglect your own needs, your healing, and your growth, you’ll eventually have nothing to give. It’s only by filling yourself up and healing your own wounds, embracing your own journey, that you can truly help others in a meaningful, sustainable way.

Are you ready to use your pain?

So, if you’re reading this and you’ve been through your own darkness, I want you to know that it was not in vain. Every struggle, every tear, every moment of despair has led you to this moment where you can choose to step into your purpose and create change.

And if you’re still in the thick of it, I promise you, there is light ahead. The darkest moments of your life are shaping you into someone capable of something bigger. Don’t give up now. Stay strong, stay resilient, and trust that the universe is guiding you toward your greater purpose.

I know it’s not always easy to see the bigger picture when you’re in the middle of the struggle, but I urge you to trust the process. You are meant to survive, you are meant to thrive, and you are meant to help others do the same.

So let’s make a pact: to not just survive the darkness, but to rise from it stronger, more resilient, and ready to help others do the same. Together, we can clear the path, ignite the fire, and set new precedents for those who follow.

Thank you for reading, and thank you for being part of this journey. If you resonate with anything I’ve shared here, I invite you to connect with me let’s continue this conversation. Your story matters, and it’s time for the world to hear it.
