Straight up, I know that is a title not everyone will love. Some won’t agree, others will be triggered and let me answer that promptly with – I’m alright with that. Neither side is wrong for our opinions. Me being me though, I’ll also add that anybody who would rather deny the existence of, suppress and compartmentalise their natural feelings of anger, has yet to learn the immensity of its power. In terms of power, this Witch has a thing or two to say!
In terms of magick, it can generate a more energetically charge offering than creating another energetic tether to somebody you’d rather have nothing to do with, that’s a bit of a no-brainer when you look at what is really happening in those moments, energetically speaking.
Disclaimer stuff first: I get that most of those adverse reactions stem from conditioning and belief systems that teach detachment from such feelings. I get it, most people do in fact need help with compulsive reactions like anger and detachment can be a stepping stone to that. I’ll make an important definition here, people should be taught to feel it and move through it. To learn its potency and why it shouldn’t be so freely thrown away.
Before you read any further, please know I’m not advocating for you to be angry for the hell of it, this isn’t a hulk-out green light. The next step is to transcend the anger, not detachment from it. From an occult perspective, the goal is always to integrate, never detach or give away something that can be so damn powerful (that includes wasting it on the people who “trigger” it to rise in the first place). It needs to be understood and integrated for it to become conscious, there is no way around that. So, own it, give it an outlet, harness it constructively, but still work towards transcending it. In the meantime, because that is a long-arse path and I won’t pretend otherwise – there are ways you can make it work for you.
You should never feel guilt when it rises, that’s conditioning and wounding that will reinforce the pain underneath it, that already doesn’t feel validated. READ THAT SENTENCE AGAIN! That is literally counter productive to your healing. If you have made a Muppet of yourself and lashed out, own that too. The emotionally intelligent way to start with that is acknowledging how you know it was a wrong reaction – to yourself firstly – then if required, apologise, make amends. Don’t pretend it doesn’t exist, it will only come back more drastically next time. Just know, when you feel it and don’t unconsciously project that raw force uncontrollably, then you can really have a big impact.
In our quest for spiritual enlightenment and personal growth, we often encounter teachings that advocate for inner peace, serenity, and detachment from negative emotions. While these principles have their merit, they sometimes lead us to believe that anger is an emotion to be avoided, at all costs. However, what if I told you that anger, when understood and harnessed consciously, can be a powerful tool on our spiritual journey? Whilst I’ve seen and foreseen this topic having a collective stronghold recently (and to come), I figure why not explore that together?
If you don’t feel like reading on, just get through this next bit because this is possibly the most important point to take away from this article… Anger is there to bring our attention to something, it is an extreme reaction because it directly reflects the level of attention to something ‘not right’ that you need to focus on. The true problem might not be that total arsehat that just disrespected you, but rather a boundary that was walked all over internally again, or your already fragile self-worth scales that were just metaphorically pushed over again. What did that instigator (the previously mention, total arsehat) really give your inner self the opportunity to point our – using anger as a tool to get your attention? Most people skip that step and go straight into fight or flight mode.
Perhaps it’s my occult background bias of understanding it is one of the most powerful energies you can generate for instant effects, and sexual energy because of their unmatched intensity. Yes, I hear the sceptical thoughts – I know love is an insanely powerful energy too. For the record, to all of those sceptics, in terms of vibrational frequencies that are ideal to match to, I still say love – but that is not what I am talking about here. It terms of power generating sources, there is an outranking here but we talking totally different ends of the vibrational frequency scale, of course. Witch remember – I look at energetics a little differently. To me, love is a way of being, not something to conjure up or attach only to specific things. Regardless of how you view love, it is an energy that the majority of the time, it would be best attuning to. Or at least trying to, until it becomes second nature – and a way of being. The reality is, that it is nearly impossible for most people, sadly.
That is not what this post is about however, or practical for most people. This is not your anger permission slip – I need to reinforce that, you absolutely do need to work on anything that you do find triggering or causing you anger and identify the underlying energetic leaks but let’s not get distracted there either. I’m here to talk about what happens in those moments you do inevitably feel anger rise within your system, and what to do with it.
I just can’t deny the efficiency of this raw energy, when you know how to harness it – or in other terms -tap back into that triggering moment and direct it. The potential it wields from an energetics perspective is perhaps even seductive, if you’re someone who consciously plays with the electric impulses of this deeper-than-it-seems reality. I’m not advocating that everyone should ‘lose their shit at the drop of a hat because you’ll be one powerful force’, rather that you acknowledge it exists, identify your internal warning signs and triggers, DO NOT give away your power through reaction but rather harness it consciously. And when it’s the right time to tell someone they are being an idiot, it packs a punch and people listen up. Just don’t throw hands literally, in most cases, that’s not called for and potentially criminally punishable.
Understanding the Nature of Anger
Anger is a universal human emotion. It can arise from various sources, such as perceived injustices, frustration, or even personal triggers and deep unconscious conditioning. Often, when we think of spirituality, we picture serene individuals who never experience anger. However, suppressing anger can be detrimental to our spiritual growth and overall well-being.
- Acknowledge and Acceptance: The first step towards using anger consciously is acknowledging its presence in our lives. Denying or repressing anger only leads to its festering and growing more potent over time. We’ll look at this deeper when we get into our shadow work. Instead, we should accept that anger is a part of our human experience. It, like everything in your life – is a Teacher, but not your Master.
- A Source of Energy: Anger, like any other emotion, is energy. When we feel angry, our bodies respond with increased adrenaline and heightened awareness. This surge of energy can be channelled constructively if we are conscious of it. Rather than reacting impulsively, we can pause, breathe, and harness this energy for positive change. A spell that uses anger as it’s core power source will manifest results quicker than that of wishful thinking. This is not to point out which is better, rather highlighting a measurable electromagnetic fact. It doesn’t have to be an anger-based or vengeful spell – it never should be anyway, but it will turbo charge the right kind of spellcraft. Confused at how to work it into your own rituals? Reach out to me!
- Know what you are doing to your body: Anger has instant tangible and physical ramifications on your own body, so like anything – it’s important to understand the consequences. Anger, when generated unconsciously in reaction, can literally overwhelm the system and create such a volatile energetic baseline that can have drastic health implications. It can reorganise neural and physiological resources toward action states that bias cognitive processes.
It activates the sympathetic nervous system and produces multiple chemical changes within the biological system that have been notably referred to as “poisoning yourself for the sake of holding onto anger for another person”. It is worth looking into the pathways of anger from a medical perspective if you are interested, or simply take my words of caution that I can testify personally to the fact that anger can be such an intense, powerful energy that without a conscious and constructive ways to channel, express or harness it – you can induce a life threatening medical situation because of your reactions to another’s sheer stupidity – and that is NEVER a price worth paying!
Using Anger as a Catalyst for Positive Change
Once we recognise anger as a source of energy, we can transform it into a catalyst for personal and societal growth:
- Identify Triggers: Understanding what triggers your anger is crucial. Is it injustice, inequality, or personal frustration? Identifying these triggers can help you address the underlying issues rather than merely reacting to the anger itself. Perhaps your anger exists to try and bring your attention to the fact you react with minimal or any provocation or that you are triggered by a specific words that may be relevant to an underlying emotional memories you are yet to process.
Maybe your not angry at your partner for doing the stupid thing but rather the feelings of mistrust and helplessness it triggered in you. In this case, the source of those feelings, or rather why they were initially stored in your system originally (almost always, years ago) is more important to look at from a healing perspective than the new reaction. That in the cosmic scheme of things, is one of the funny ways the Universe works; perhaps it existed merely as another chance for you to readdress the real things that need clearing. How will you know the difference if you can’t look at these things deeply and be your own investigator? - Mindful Response: Instead of reacting impulsively, practice mindful responses. Take a moment to breathe, reflect, and choose how to channel your anger constructively. This might involve having difficult conversations, advocating for change, or setting boundaries. A lot of people aren’t conformable with confrontation, but who stands up for you -if you can’t? Remember “No.” is a complete sentence! You are worth taking a few seconds to reflect and if needed, reset. Sometimes, the Universe in it’s infinite wisdom, will also repeatedly put people/lessons in your path until you learn that reacting isn’t the right approach. Read that sentence again but replace ‘sometimes’ with always.
- Advocating for Change: Anger can be a powerful force for positive change. Historically, many social movements, such as civil rights, women’s suffrage, and environmental activism, were fuelled by righteous anger against injustice. When used consciously, anger can motivate us to stand up for what is right. I’ll reference one of the most inspirational Activists/Artists/Poets/Persons to my life, Otep Shamaya (again for my non-SS4L readers) and her song ‘Serv Asat‘ with the lyrics “Art saves, make the pain a weapon you can use“. Not only can anger be a total powerhouse source for occult practises, it’s one of the best inspirations I’ve found for art-therapy and learning to channel that energy into something constructive, transformational and healing.
- Inner Transformation: On a personal level, anger can serve as a mirror, reflecting our inner conflicts and unresolved issues. When we recognise this, anger can be a guide to our own inner transformation, helping us heal and grow spiritually. This could otherwise be known as part of your Shadow work and I will delve deeper into that over time but I will always advocate understanding your Shadow as one of your best teachers, and something to embrace not deny.
Anger as an energy for magickal usages
If you are serious about wanting to know how to specifically harness and use the energies generated from anger for your ritual work, you’ve stumbled upon the right page! This is a topic close to my heart and I’ll be releasing guided meditations and rituals designed for just that in the near future but for now you have some important prep work to that.
- Self-awareness: Before attempting to harness any emotion, including anger, it’s crucial to cultivate self-awareness. Understand the source of your anger, its triggers, and how it affects you physically and emotionally. This is also needed to take power from the ‘source’ of the anger so you ‘own’ and harness it consciously.
- Meditation and mindfulness: Practising meditation and mindfulness can help you gain better control over your emotions. These techniques can teach you to observe your emotions without judgement and make it easier to channel them in a more constructive manner. DO NOT waste your anger on intentionally designed triggers to siphon it away from you, it’s your power – you use it!
- Grounding and centring: Before attempting any occult work involving emotions, ground and centre yourself. I cannot express how important it is to learn this step, do not dismiss it as a generic pointer. Your anger is no good for occult work if you can’t control it and ‘stand aside’ from it. This helps you maintain balance and stability while working with powerful energies. You want to use it, NOT be used by it.
- Know that I can’t help you direct it if you haven’t learned how to not be consumed by it and whenever it gets too much or tries to silence you and lead you down a suffocating and isolating path – reach out to me, you are never alone on your journey – however dark and lonely it feels.
Once you’ve done those steps, we can look at designing specific rituals by:
- Intention setting: Clearly define your intention for harnessing anger or any emotion. Understand why you want to use it and what specific outcome you are seeking. Know that is doesn’t have to be a revenge/justice/hateful ritual – in fact I will only recommend the opposite, but it will require consciously accessing the source of anger without being pulled into it. This take practise and can cause spells to have unexpected outcomes if you can’t separate the these. It’s more akin to generating the energy and redirecting it to a solution.
- Visualisation: Visualise the energy of your anger as a tangible force that you can direct. Imagine it flowing through you and being channelled towards your desired goal. I have a few specific techniques to teach you how to quickly ‘draw in’ your emotionally generated energy such as anger and release it purposefully, as an offering or undeniable astral ripple that WILL bring powerful effects.
- Protective measures: It’s essential to protect yourself in all magickal workings, but especially when working with intense emotions. When you make waves in Etheric dimensions, that don’t just become a powerful “doing force” but they also gain A LOT of attention, trust me. I’ll show you how to create safe guards like protective clauses within rituals, symbols, and effective energetic shields from any potential negative consequences, or energies and entities you are likely to attract when you delve into this field. Non of that means you’ll avoid the attention, you’re just prepared and more have tools to handle ramifications. If you are ready to make waves, be prepared to be noticed!
- Ethical considerations: Always consider the ethical implications of your actions. That’s as real in the mundane world as the magickal planes. It’s pretty much covered with our witchy ‘harm ye none‘ code but it’s good to remember that using anger or any emotion for occult purposes should be aligned with your ethical values and not harm others or yourself because, if nothing else know there’s always the threefold law!
Where to now?
If the last section of this post sparked your personal interest, then stay tuned for upcoming posts or reach out to me. If this post has simply helped you take a few moments to ponder the cautions and possibilities of anger, then I’m happy – it’s at least planted some seeds and might instigate the next ‘deep breath‘ moment for you that would otherwise have been an impulsive reaction.
Being spiritual doesn’t mean suppressing or avoiding anger; it means recognising its presence, understanding its power, and using it consciously. Anger, when harnessed constructively, can fuel positive change in our lives and society at large. I know it’s been a catalyst for some of my most personal artworks and profound spiritual revelations on deeper levels than I could have imagined.
By acknowledging and embracing our anger, we can transmute it into a force for personal growth, social justice, powerful ritualistic goals and spiritual enlightenment.
Remember, spirituality isn’t about denying our humanity!
Blessed Be xo
