Learn moreOne of the most accessible and underestimated ways to deepen your inner journey is through the act of journaling. Starting with simple prompts can lead you to profound truths.
Learn moreThe Moon moves quickly, cycling through the entire zodiac every month and with it, our emotions, energy, and insight ebb and flow. Tracking the lunar phases isn’t just for witches with moon journals (though, honestly, highly recommended), it’s for anyone wanting to live in rhythm with their own psyche.
Each phase of the Moon brings a different tone. A different invitation. A different moment in the arc of creation. Whether you’re planting seeds or letting go, the Moon shows you when to act, reflect, rest, or rise.
Let’s walk through the four main phases:
The seed. The silence. The sacred start.
The New Moon is when the Moon and Sun are in the same sign and degree, meaning the Moon is invisible in the sky, lost in the glare of the Sun. Symbolically, this is a time of void not absence, but potential. It’s the womb of creation. The soil before the sprout.
This is when we set intentions, consciously or not. It’s a time to go inward, to feel your desires before they take shape. New Moons are subtle, they don’t always feel dramatic but they’re powerful beginnings. What you wish, whisper, or pray here often unfolds over the next six months.
Don’t force action. Instead, tune in. Plant something in the dark and trust it knows how to grow.
Tension. Choice. Movement.
Roughly a week after the New Moon, the First Quarter arrives, the Moon is now half-lit and squaring the Sun. This is the crisis of action. Something challenges your intention. Resistance shows up. Life asks: Are you serious about what you said you wanted?
It’s the turning point between dreaming and doing. You may feel pressure, doubt, or motivation to take the next step. This phase favours commitment, recalibration, or courage. It’s time to adjust course or double down but either way, move.
If you planted a seed at the New Moon, this is when it breaks ground.
Illumination. Culmination. Revelation.
The Full Moon occurs when the Moon is directly opposite the Sun, a natural opposition in astrology. The Moon is fully illuminated, reflecting the Sun’s light, and symbolically? So are you.
This is when things come to light – for better or for “well, that explains the drama.” Emotions heighten. Truths surface. Relationships come into focus. Cycles reach a climax. If the New Moon was a question, the Full Moon is an answer, sometimes loud, sometimes messy, but always revealing.
Full Moons are powerful release points. They show you what’s bloomed… and what must now be pruned.
Integration. Re-evaluation. Sacred undoing.
As the Moon wanes and returns to shadow, the Last Quarter arrives. It’s again at a square to the Sun, this time, a crisis of consciousness. It’s not about action, it’s about reflection. The harvest is in, and now you must sort what stays and what goes.
This phase often brings discomfort, clarity, or emotional processing. You might feel more private, contemplative, or disillusioned not because anything is wrong, but because your inner world is digesting everything the cycle has brought.
It’s the clean-up crew. The closing ceremony. The compost for the next cycle. Honour the release and rest.
