Inner Work Journaling

One of the most accessible and underestimated ways to deepen your inner journey is through the act of journaling. Starting with simple prompts can lead you to profound truths.

One of the most accessible – and underestimated – ways to deepen your inner journey is through the act of journaling. Whether you’re focused on self-development, healing, spiritual awakening, or simply getting to know your own mind better, journaling opens a gateway into unseen layers of the self. In my experience, it’s one of the fastest ways to accelerate all of the above.

Journaling isn’t just for those ethereal beings with beautiful scrapbooks, washi tape collections, and colour-coded pens (though if that’s you, I love that for you). You don’t even need to write the questions down for them to work. What matters most is presence, reading a question and allowing space for a real answer to rise from within.

Sounds simple, right? But here’s the nuance: if you want to go deeper, to make this a sacred practice rather than a casual one, you’ll need to re-establish a sense of trust with your inner world. Your subconscious isn’t a machine to extract wisdom from, it’s a relationship to be tended. At first, your inner voice might be shy, quiet, or withholding. And that makes sense. Many of us have ignored our own intuition, overridden our needs, or silenced our knowing. Why should your psyche pour its heart out to someone who hasn’t listened in years?

💡 HOT TIP: Let it speak. Out loud.
This might sound odd, but journaling doesn’t have to involve a pen at all. Try recording yourself on your phone as you read the questions. Save the audio and play it back with headphones. This builds a powerful feedback loop between your conscious and subconscious mind. Want to take it even further? When you feel ready, press record again – but this time, respond. Speak your answers aloud without filtering, even if it feels weird or foreign. No script. No censoring. Just truth. Then listen back. Judgement-free. You’ll be surprised what emerges when you stop trying to “get it right” and simply let it be said.

If I hadn’t experienced breakthroughs using this exact method, I wouldn’t share it. Try it. Strength-test it. See what parts of you answer when you finally give them a voice.

Below, you’ll find a collection of journaling prompts curated from my blog posts, videos, and courses. It will be added to in time, so check back often. These questions will be loosely grouped by theme, and where relevant, I’ve linked back to their source so you can explore more deeply. Feel free to print them, copy them, choose them at random, or follow your intuition to the section that calls you most.

This isn’t a to-do list. It’s a soul conversation starter. Take what resonates. Leave the rest. And above all be honest with yourself.

Reflection Questions for Deeper Integration

These questions are designed to help you bring awareness to your own experiences of somatic recalibration, kriyas, and energetic communication. You may wish to journal your responses, speak them aloud, or simply sit with them in quiet contemplation:

  • When was the first time I noticed my body doing something unexpected during meditation, stillness, or rest?
  • Did I judge or fear that response or did I feel curious or safe in it?
  • What do I usually do when my body reacts involuntarily; do I freeze, push through, or soften into it?
  • What kinds of practices tend to activate these responses in me? (e.g. breathwork, yoga, stillness, prayer, grief release, music)
  • How do I treat my body before and after these experiences? Do I offer it support or just “move on”?
  • What might my body be trying to say that I haven’t yet made time to hear?
  • How would it feel to treat these moments as sacred communications rather than glitches or blocks?
  • What patterns do I notice about when my nervous system feels safest to release?
  • What would it look like to build a daily ritual of body listening even if nothing “big” happens?
  • If my body were my most honest spiritual teacher, what wisdom would it want me to remember?

Additional Reflection Questions: For the Disconnected, the Tender, and the In-Between

These questions aren’t meant to be pried open all at once. They are soft keys. Use them to explore your inner world at your own pace, with compassion and curiosity.

You might want to journal these, sit with them in meditation, or return to them over time. You don’t need to have answers right away, it’s enough to simply let them exist in your awareness.

  • When did I first start feeling disconnected from my body? If I trace it back, is there a moment, age, or environment that comes to mind?
  • Have I ever felt punished, rejected, or misunderstood for being in my body – emotionally, sexually, or physically?
  • What was the tone of my childhood environment when it came to expressing emotion or sensation?
  • Do I remember a time when my body felt like mine – a place I trusted, felt safe in, or even loved?
  • Is there any part of my body I avoid noticing or being with? What emotions arise when I do?
  • What survival strategies might I still be holding that once protected me, but now keep me from feeling?
  • When someone touches me with love or presence, what is my instinctive response? Do I freeze, lean in, flinch?
  • What would it mean to be fully present in my body? What scares me about that?
  • If I could speak directly to my body right now, without judgement – what would I say?
  • What might my body say back, if it trusted I would listen?

If these questions stirred something in you whether it was a tear, a tightness, a memory, or even just a blankness – that’s not a failure. That’s a beginning. The path back into your body isn’t paved with instant sensations or grand revelations.
